Duett Design is one hot little company, we catch up with Hannah Straight and chat to her about
her inspiration for the newest drop of beautiful graphic art pieces, as well as her collaboration
with NZ artist Nic Staveley. You can also spot Hannah and her family in the August Issue of
Your Home and Garden in their beautiful North Shore home.
Tell us a little about the journey for your business so far:
We started Duett Design at the start of last year after I was looking for some artwork for our living room.
My husband Greg Straight is an artist and we have lots of his art on the walls but for this space I was
looking for something more minimal and geometric to fit with the scandi-style feel of the room. So I
asked Greg to translate what was in my mind onto paper (via the computer) and before long we had
come up with an entire range so I decided to put together a website and put it to the market.
Where do you find your inspiration?:
Totally stems from scandi-style and the many variations of it. I particularly love both minimal and
mid-century feels but also beachy and rustic, its really hard to pic a favourite so I work off quite a
few sources of inspiration. At the moment with the art and photography prints we have on the
website I have large formats in mind. Statement pieces in an otherwise minimal setting is what
I’m aiming for
What drives your passion for DD?:
Duett Design is driven by my love for interiors and by the amazing photographers I’ve been
working with lately. Its so great to find such incredible talent and to promote their work and
see the positive feedback roll in. The latest range by Nic Staveley is proving very popular, the
big landscape style prints are so stunning. There is another range of photography prints coming
out soon too, in a completely different style but I’ve got a good feeling abut those too.
My favourite room in our house is:
Our master bedroom, its light, bright and airy, has a hotel-style bathroom and huge mirror doors which
really opens up the space. It’s particularly lovely in the summer-time to chill out with all the doors and
Our product can be found:
Mostly just on our website at the moment and a selection at endemicworld
I’m British, so home is a crackling open fire and comfy couch with a cup of tea and magazine
(or scrolling through Pinterest) but in the summer-time home is definitely here in NZ.
